Students are at Risk Due To Poor Security Measures

Recently, A security audit was carried by Punjab’s Interior department in 4,894 government schools. According to the audit report, Students Are at Risk Due To Poor Security Measures at Schools.

Moreover, The interior department has brought in notice of 
education and police departments, and commissioners of ten districts, the violation of the standard operating procedures (SOP) by the government schools.

During the audit, Out of 4894 inspected schools in 10 districts, 1069 are those which do not have any boundary walls, 254 have no CCTV cameras, 4,210 have no walk through gates, 40 schools were those where the security guards are carrying non-functional guns and 12 schools have no metal detectors.

Further, 4,827 schools are without scanners, in 854 schools the security guards let the visitors in without checking and 263 schools have no record of the visitors. Bunkers are not present at the entry and exit points of 1,626 schools.

Not a single school has a central control room to keep an eye on the situation. There are no panic buttons installed and no emergency alarms in any emergency.

The interior department says all the schools must have these security measures as mentioned in the SOP.

As a response to the audit report, the education department complained of having insufficient fund to implement such security measures in accordance with SOP.
